Project Description

Riga Internation Airport

The new Riga International Airport terminal project should be implemented before 2014.

“The government has made it clear that it realizes the importance of the national air carrier” airBaltic “, which will be maintained. However, it is also necessary to implement the project of the airport terminal,” said the minister.

AUGULIS points out that the airport runways will be brought to order with the help of the European Union Cohesion Fund. According to the plans presented, the terminal will be rebuilt in 2014, when Riga will become the European Capital of Culture. The project should be completed by 2015, when Latvia will join the EU Presidency.

The most logical terminal development model has been chosen and evaluated, and there is plenty of time to complete. The Ministry of Transport is ready to present the project to the Government, which will review it together with the 2012 budget.

As reported, the current extension terminal project is estimated to cost 68 million euros (LVL 45.7 million).

According to the concept of the new terminal, the flow of passengers in the Schengen area will be separated from other passenger flows. The concept also includes new luggage handling rooms with automated baggage handling systems. The passenger registration area and the aircraft docks will be wider.

Riga International Airport is currently suffering from the insufficient capacity of its terminal. Airports with 4.6 million passengers served in 2010. This year, it is planned to serve 5 million passengers.

ORFISA has collaborated in the preparation of the tender for the works.
