Duhail Intersection and Al Gharrafa Street. Doha.
This project includes a 2.1 kms section of the proposed expressway on Al Khafji Street / Al Gharaffa Street. Once completed, this expressway will connect the area from the north of West Bay to Mesaieed through the Industrial Area. In addition to the reconstruction of Al Khafji Street / Al Gharaffa Street, a section of Al Shamal Road, about 1.6 kms in length, is also proposed to be upgraded as part of this project. Al Shamal Road is one of the heaviest travelled roads in Qatar and is acting as a major north-south artery for the Doha residents.
The main roads (Al Khafji Street, Al Gharaffa Street and Al Shamal Road) consist of an 8- lane section (4 lanes in each direction) with additional auxiliary and/or ramp lanes. There are continuous service roads on both sides that serve the low speed local traffic accessing the adjacent areas. There are two (2) interchanges proposed in this project; namely, J111 and J112. The interchange on Al Shamal Road (J112) is a major system-to-system interchange at Al Shamal Road / Al Khafji Street junction providing free-flow turning movements.
The scope of work includes the complete design, approvals, permitting and construction of a new expressway, including two different grade-separated interchanges with cross roads, frontage roads, overpass and underpass structures, retaining walls, pedestrian and bicycle paths, traffic signs, signals and ITS, landscape and hardscape and artscape, street lighting, surface water micro-tunnel and all related infrastructure, etc.
